A Canvas of Self-Love!

Sometimes I wonder if when I am writing for the Self-Love Warrior Blog or creating images for the Love Warrior Community if people notice these things. I ponder: How would I paint a picture for everyone on how to start their own Self-Love Journey?

Well, with any good piece of art, you should start with the artist, being me. I could only tell you what works for me.

For me, Self-Love has been like a smooth canvas. Every piece of good art has a blank canvas. Something you mold, capture and create. Self-love is a lot like that. When you begin on your journey, you have your canvas. You are the artist. Next, you have to figuratively find your medium. What drives you to self-love? What helps you with self-love?

I learned from my own canvas, or journey, that an author is an artist that has learned to paint with words. I most confidently learned to metaphorically paint a picture of self-love for myself with words. Da Vinci said, “the eye sees a thing more clearly in dreams than the imagination awake.”

I  can’t change my past, but I can start here, make a new beginning and maybe even paint one.

As a person who has suffered from body image issues most of my life, it was hard in the beginning trying to paint my own canvas of self-love. Little over a month ago I was graduating from eating disorder treatment. I was breathing and standing there, trying to say positive things, and I realized that graduating from treatment, mostly that recovery, didn’t mean that I all of a sudden like how I look and how I saw myself. I learned that I could change how I felt about myself every day. I learned this by practicing self-love daily, through writing, creating and promoting the one thing that helped me the most: Self-love.

Sometimes I find myself creating and writing more than painting, art forms that are not just about me. It is more than just an image I create. It is more than a blog entry I write. It is a canvas to my inner artist. It’s a canvas to those around me, and it is a canvas to others who have began their Self-Love Journey, as well as to those who are just starting their own.

The thing about canvases, you can always reach for another and start new. Just remember, Self-Love has nothing to do with your life circumstances. It’s based on your ability to accept the things you are experiencing and to paint something else!

Radically Love,
