I’ve been noticing my habits recently, and how they have been impacting me. For example, for the past two weeks, I’ve been making myself breakfast and eating it while watching TV. I usually watch TV to zone out and unwind before I go to bed. I don’t often watch TV for pure enjoyment, but to slow down my thoughts so I can have an empty mind before I go to sleep. For me, that’s not the best way to start the day. I want to start my day with energy, not with wanting to go back to sleep.
When I start my day with watching TV while eating breakfast, I notice the rest of my day isn’t as productive, I have less energy and I’m not as happy. Since I have noticed this, I have been starting my mornings differently. For example, I’ll start my day with eating breakfast in the kitchen, or I’ll start my day with Qigong, or a walk, or a jog, or some form of movement, and then breakfast. I think eating breakfast in my backyard would be both grounding and energizing. I’ll try that one morning.
Now that I know how starting my morning while watching impacts me, and that I don’t like how it impacts me, I can choose to start my mornings in a different way.
Another habit I’ve noticed, I’d watch a lot of TV or movies before I go to sleep, and sometimes while in bed. This usually causes me to stay up late and I end up not sleeping well. When I don’t get good sleep, it impacts how I feel all day.
What I’ve done to change this? I watch less TV at night. I don’t watch TV in bed, and instead of watching TV to unwind, I’ll read instead. I’ve realized that I fall asleep much faster when I read in bed, instead of watching TV – I’ve also noticed that watching TV at night actually keeps me up.
The Self-Love Diet Tip #20 is to notice your habits and how they impact you.
I want to start my mornings feeling grounded and energized and by fostering a calm, alert and positive mindset. I want to end my evenings with my body and mind feeling rested and my head relaxed and empty so I can easily fall asleep. I’ve realized that watching TV doesn’t give me the result I want for either.
What habits have a positive impact in your life? How do they make you feel? What habits in your life give you a different outcome from what you’re actually wanting to foster? How do they make you feel? What could you do differently to change those habits so that you can foster the feelings you want to experience?
