It took me a long time to figure out that hating those who mistreated me was not a reflection of how “confident” or loving of myself I really was (despite my claims). Instead it was the opposite, it was my attempt to rail against the beliefs I had internalized about myself, my body & my worth.
For so long I judged & placed value on myself based on the thoughts, feelings & beliefs of others and only in the last year have I really begun to put those external realities to rest.
