How to fire your inner judge in 5 easy steps

For the month of June you are invited to work on firing your inner judge or critic each time it shows up.

In my book, Self-Love Diet: The Only Diet That Works,  in the chapter titled: “How do you begin to love yourself ?” I describe some Self-Love Diet tools that you can use to help  rid yourself of the Judge. Here is the tool titled The Five Step Process:

If you have five fingers on your hand you can use each finger to remind you of this 5 step process.

#1 Catch the thought.

During the month of June be on the look-out for negative self-talk.

For example: If you are trying on clothes and you hear yourself say, “My hips are too big to wear these pants. I look disgusting.”   Catch the thought once you notice it.

#2 Confront your thought by asking, “Who says?”

Your response to that judgmental thought could be: “Who says my hips are too big? The advertising agencies who are selling these pants? A group of unknown people sitting around a conference table who deemed that lean was in and curvy was out?”

#3 Replace the thought.

Choose affirming statements about yourself, for example: “My worth does not depend on the size of my hips. I am a good person and a good friend, and I do my best to leave each place I visit a little better. My inner qualities are more important than the dimensions of my body.”

#4 Apologize to yourself.

For example: “I’m sorry for calling myself disgusting.”

#5 Commit to change.

Create a plan to change your behavior, for example: “Each time I catch myself criticizing my body, I will confront, replace, and apologize to myself until I no longer criticize myself.”

I look forward to hearing how you’ve used the Five Step Process to help you fire your judge.  You can go to the Love Warrior Community to submit your post for June. If you are a first time submitter to our blog site, you are eligible to win a $25 Amazon gift card.

Michelle, Such a symbolic way of remembering the steps to creating a more adaptive and true statement by writing on the hand or using our fingers to count the steps. I love the photo.
