Reviewing the Past

Dear Love Warrior Community,

Today has been a mixed bag of sorts—filled with gratitude for those I love, time with them, as well as being exhausted from being ill. On this evening I took time to reflect on my life…reviewing old journals and pictures of the past. It seems like I can bring myself to those very moments and feel at the same time of a different world. I share with you a poem that I once wrote when in recovery from my eating disorder. Reflecting upon it I see how my light and spirit have always been there for me and have carried my truth.

It was as dark as the sun breaking at dawn
Rising high in the sky
The light like a spider
The webs of your eyes
To the birth and death of you
As to ants or pests
Making a trail, fragile snow
Edge to bank
River to flow

I measure myself
like dust to dawn
Against a hollow tree
I find I am more whole
Reaching for evaporating skin
In and out the door sways

The sea grows suspicion
Wild sounds of the free horse turn silence
Across the bridge into the field
Fear of going down
Muscles trust

The imperfect, a paradise
Round to square
Flawed words and subtle tries
Smoking glass and hindered thoughts
Perception opaque, night like stars
Already the leaves of spring
Are the orange of fall
Rise all around this place so frail

Deeper into the depths
Through heart carried pages
Vision to imagination, blank asserting lines
The butterfly preaches on a branch hung high
It has found a resting place

As an act of self-love I believe that as a therapist, as well as with ourselves, that it is important on a consistent basis to review our growth and expansion of the spirit, soul, psych and inner and outer personal worlds.

Much love,
