Today is day two of the 31-day Self-Love Writing Challenge.
This was one of those mornings where I woke up and noticed that groggy, I-want-more-sleep feeling. I didn’t have an early client today so I let myself get back in my warm cozy bed and started counting my blessings. As I was counting them, I realized that today is my first day back to work since Dec. 21st. I felt grateful and looked forward to my day at work. I know many people can find themselves grateful for work, but not necessarily happy or fulfilled with the work they do. I am blessed to be passionate about my work and to have fulfilling, meaningful work that benefits others.
When I look back at the decision that I made so many years ago to go back to school to get my Masters in Counseling, even though I had young 3 children, I can see that I was practicing self-love by allowing myself to follow my calling. Even though it was not an easy or smooth path, it was still a loving endeavor. It became even more challenging when I had my fourth child while I was in the Masters Program!
I have found that challenges can be our best teachers. This 31-day self-love writing challenge is helping me to stay more focused on being kind to myself, and what I’ve been noticing is that this kindness is overflowing to others. I’ve noticed myself saying “Hello” to more strangers as I pass them by on the street. I’m smiling more; it seems as if my growing self-love cannot stay contained within me.
This is one of the promises of the Self-Love Diet; when we focus on loving ourselves, we find that our relationships with others also improve. This is a double gift, sort of like a “buy one, get one free” deal at the store, but much better!
