I went on a run today with my sister. We went on a 2 mile run & when I started with the first step, I knew I was starting out too fast. I kept that pace for the 1st mile, but I was struggling. I’d go in & out of the race pace mindset. The race pace mindset, when I’ve been training, can be relaxing, but when I haven’t ran in a while, it’s a mental battle.
After the first mile we stopped to stretch and when we started again I began to run at my own pace. I felt the difference instantly. Instead of mentally struggling, not enjoying the run & going back and forth between thinking negatively and trying to clear my mind, I began relaxed. Instead of adding stress to my day, when I ran the second mile it was calming, relaxing and grounding.
To reverse my mindset, all I had to do was run at my own pace, and it completely changed how I experienced the run.
