Hey jael.

Self-love 1.5.2012

Hey jael.
Yes. You Ja’el! Look at me when I am talking to you, it’s rude and we both know mom taught you better. Stop freaking out every time you are called to do something. The entire world knows you like to be involved in everything and you take on a lot of pressure so you got what you asked for, now deal with it! But deal with it in way that reflects the person who you are. You are a responsible, dependable, young woman who always has a smile on her face. So your workload gets hard, news flash: life is hard, but we can get through this. Baby steps. A great friend once said “When you have a lot to do, it’s important to look at everything as one step at a time, to break it down into small steps and not look at it as a bigger picture. When you see it as something larger, it becomes daunting, causes stress, which turns into wasted time worrying, but if you just see everything as one small step after the other, it makes things easier.” So we just registered for the GRE for January 26. Our application is due February 11. You are Student Government President, Songshine Co-President, President and member of “other” activities in school, barista and friend.

You’ve got this!

About jaelisawesome

I am currently a senior at Randolph College, founded as Randolph-Macon Woman's College in 1891, majoring in Political Science: International Relations with minors in Spanish and Studio Art. Born and raised in Richmond, Virginia I believe that I have significant contributions to make to the world of diplomacy and US foreign policy. As Student Government President I am the liaison between the students and the faculty and administration, as well as the student representative to the Board of Trustees. I also serve as the Co-President of an all female a cappella group Songshine. I am known for being involved in any and every aspect at school. Some of my passions include playing on the volleyball and tennis teams, singing in almost every group at my school, performing in my very first musical Spring Awakening in the theatre department to taking orders as a barista at the schools’ coffee shop Main Grounds. After I graduate in May 2012, I aspire to attend the Master of Arts in Political Science with a concentration in European Union Policy Studies one-year, 33-credit graduate program. The intensive, residential program is based wholly in Florence, Italy and results in an MA degree in Political Science from James Madison University. My goal is to spread the Love Warrior Community, meaning more people actively bringing self-love into their lives and into the lives of others, more people accepting and loving themselves as they are and more people empowered to follow their passions and share them with the world. The Love Warrior Community is as strong as those involved. By joining the Love Warrior Community, I have the opportunity to create my own self-love practice, bringing more love into my life and the lives of those around me. I will be able to influence a greater number of people and help them to see their value and worth beyond their bodies.

  1. I LOVE this! One of my biggest problems in life is taking on too much. I used to get so overwhelmed and stressed out, but changing my mentality to focusing on the present moment has helped me to manage my stress, become more productive and effective with my time and it has helped me to love myself more.

When I take on too much and get lost in the big picture, I waste my time worrying. I began to think, “I can’t. I can’t. I can’t.” or I begin to question and doubt myself. I take on too much, I become overwhelmed and sometimes my quality of work declines. I’m setting myself up for failure. In the past 3 months I have learned to take on less & to re-focus my energy while still managing a lot. I could still benefit from less, but focusing on being in the present moment and in the mindset of one small step at a time, then another, then another, and then another, that helps me so much. 🙂 It keeps my in a positive, healthy mood. 🙂

  2. I can learn so much from you Emelina! I’m working on not using the word “can’t” instead I’m trying “not right now” because it’s not necessarily no…yet. Which is another issue sometimes I feel like I can’t say no to people, I feel that I disappoint them.
Anyway, i know i have produce top quality work when my spirits are up, i have a positive flow of energy and I believe I can do whatever! So as long as I can stay in a healthy mood and refocus my negativity, I’m golden!
