The 7th Day

Self–Love – April 12, 2011

I sent my book proposal, query letter, and manuscript to my editors a few days ago.

I started my book in 2004. It’s taken me 7 years to get to this point! 7 is a symbolically meaningful number. In the bible, God rested on the 7th day because his creation was finished!

I know that my book is not out in the world yet, but this is a big accomplishment so far. I want to slow down, and let it sink in, and take the time to honor the work I’ve been doing.

This project of “finishing my book proposal” has been looming over me for so long that there was a freedom and lightness I felt once I pushed the “send” button on my email account to my editors.

I’ve found my mind telling me I need to write, but I can’t until I hear from my editors! There were a few moments when I didn’t know what to do with my time off. What I did was rest, spent time with my husband, visited with my daughter, and helped her return, exchange, and wash her babies’ clothes.

What a joy to fold Ninel’s little pink leggings and place them in her dresser drawer! I’ve been picking up books, reading for pleasure, and cooking full dinners.

I am working on loving myself for whom I am, not what I do, but at the same time I want to acknowledge my progress toward my goal of getting this book published.

Do you tend to push yourself to “the next” goal? If so, try luxuriating in the experience of completing something. Let me know how it feels to you!
